Vancouver’s own Interior Design Show (IDS) is an annual premiere showcase of new products and furniture, superstar designers and avant-garde concepts from North America and beyond, and one of our fav visual events of the year. This year’s theme “Moving Parts of the Design World”, is talking about incorporating sustainable materials and components, designs adapting to how humans want to live and interact now, and work resulting from reinvented manufacturing.
IDS takes place Thursday, September 21st – Sunday, September 24th. This is what’s happening and what to see:
The Opening Party
Vancouver loves an reason to get dressed up and socialize, especially in the name of arts. The Opening Party takes place on the Thursday from 7pm – 10pm and it’s a who’s who of the arts scene in the city and the perfect fashion watch spot.
Prototype
Prototype is one of the most interesting exhibits, where you get to see new ideas and conceptual products that haven’t yet been produced for the residential market. Some past prototypes have gone on to be featured in the market, so you can have your own personal rating as to what you think will make it.
Studio North
Studio North is a showcase of custom work and limited-edition collections. Canadian and international designers of the highest caliber present one-off, creative and custom collections of furniture, lighting, glass, ceramics, textiles and surface design in a gallery-like setting that you can see them come to life.
The District
The District is the area of the convention where you get to check out fresh collections of design products, potentially to take home. You can find artist dishware, furniture, home accessories or knick knacks to add some creative elements to your place.
