Vancouver restaurateur launches 50/50 plant-and-meat-blend food company

The future looks healthy. Vancouver is a health-conscious (for the most part) city. We bike, hike, do yoga and drink matcha (ok not all of us, but you get it). We also have a large population of non-meat eaters with more and more plant-based options popping up. If you’re not entirely ready to make the leap yet, but are wanting to cut back or get healthier, there’s something new to try.

Local entrepreneur Paul Rivas (owner of Bodega on Main, The Parlour and Cold Tea) has brought a new food company to Vancouver called Holy Cow!, which is a blend of meat and vegan products that aren’t chemicals (yayy!). The brand has 3 products so far – crumble, burgers and meatballs – which are all made up of real, local beef and real vegetables (peas, carrots and cauliflower) and are much healthier for you and better for the environment.  The biggest perk, is that it’s a really good way to sneak in some veggies for the veggie-haters you know (they’ll probably never know). It tastes like beef, but feels like goodness.

Primarily a restaurateur and former chef, Paul had a little bit of extra time on his hands during the COVID lockdown with his restaurants closed or operating at a lesser capacity. He was looking for an excuse to get back in the kitchen and a way to get healthier and lucky for us, the birth of Holy Cow! happened. They also have some 100% plant-based products in the works, so stayed tuned for more!
