Downtown Van has announced their 2023 movie lineup for the outdoor movie series, Summer Movie Nights. Last year’s event brought an average of 2,500 attendees per night, with Spider-Man: No Way Home hitting record attendance (approximately 4,000). This is the fourth year the event will be running at šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square (formerly known as the Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza), and it’s set to be bigger and better than ever. With a mix of new blockbusters and pop culture classics, this year’s selection of films is diverse and appropriate for all audiences. Summer Movie Nights kicks off Thursday, July 6th and continues every Thursday until August 17th.
Summer Movie Nights is a free, family-friendly outdoor movie event that’s accessible to all audiences. Movies are played on a 16-foot inflatable screen and begin at sundown (around 9pm). As a warm-up to the feature film, the plaza features a number of activations and activities starting at 5pm, like face painting, stilt walkers, go-go dancers, mini-golf and live music. To celebrate Canadian Women’s Soccer and Vancouver hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup, there will be a visit from Vancouver Whitecaps FC mascot Spike on Thursday, July 13th. Food trucks will be on-site weekly, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own seating.
