IndieFest returns to Vancouver this fall with even bolder and more immersive performances than ever. Now in its fourth year, the festival has fast become an incubator for cross-sector collaboration, genre-defying experiences and an innovative platform for local artists to share their performances in all stages of development.

This year’s festival lineup reflects the commitment of re:Naissance Opera to invest in and nurture the local artistic community. By providing a stage for emerging and established artists to showcase their talents, IndieFest 2023’s programming will feature awe-inspiring opera, augmented reality, immersive theatre experiences and indigenous storytelling through classical music, dance and more.

Co-artistic leaders and IndieFest curators Debi Wong and Stephanie Wong have identified this year’s theme as Future Mythologies, highlighting forgotten histories, and empowering BIPOC artists to bring new stories into the world.

“The art that we are creating and showcasing now will become the myths of tomorrow,” said Stephanie Wong. “We want our audiences to really connect to these artists and these performances. We partnered with three new, unique venues this year so we can present our artists’ works in an immersive way. Our audiences aren’t passive attendees of our shows – they are actively participating in them and becoming a part of these future myths.”

About re:Naissance & IndieFest

Founded in 2017, re:Naissance Opera produces modern-day operatic performances that represent and connect the diverse communities, people, storytelling media and voices unique to its home-city of Vancouver, BC. IndieFest is the realization of re:Naissance Opera’s commitment to investing in its local artistic community.
