The Deighton Cup’s COCKTAIL JOCKEY Competition might be better than the actual races

We’re definitely kidding, nothing beats getting dressed up, drinking champagne, smoking cigars and betting on horses (even better if you win). But 2nd place goes to the Cocktail Jockey Competition, which usually takes place at the Hastings Racetrack the day of the event, but this year they made it into two separate events (another costume opp). 10 of Vancouver’s top bartenders compete for the Boothby Julep Trophy and $1,000 cash prize and to have bragging rights as the best! Here’s why it’s awesome:

5.  The Venue

Reflections: The Garden Terrace is one of the chicest lounges in Vancouver and THE place to see and be seen.

4. The Cocktails

Sponsored by Piper-Heidsieck, the competition cocktail for this fifth anniversary year was the Champagne cocktail – made with sugar, Angostura bitters, brandy, topped with chilled Champagne and a cherry on top. 10 different champagne cocktails sounds fabulous!

3. Mix and Mingle

The who’s who of the city attend the Deighton Cup, so if you’re looking to meet new and old people, this is a more intimate spot than the thousands in attendance at the racetrack

2. Costume Opportunity

Big hats, Suspenders and Bow ties, can you really say no? And now you can wear wear both options you couldn’t choose between.

1. Witness Custom Unique Cocktails In The Flesh

10 of the best bartenders bring their A-game to make the most unique and impressive rendition of the annual cocktail. Fast pouring, bottle tossing and smoking (the cocktails) keep you entertained the whole time.
