It can be hard to meet people, let alone make friends in a new place. One thing is certain: you won’t meet anyone unless you make an actual effort to ‘get out there.’  Once you do, you’ll find that this city is filled with people that are friendly and welcoming – despite what negative Nancy’s might say. But where to go? Read our list and get out there!

Dog Parks

Hit one of the dog parks in the city and let your fur baby break the ice for you.  If there’s one thing that Vancouverites have in common, it’s our love for dogs.

Rock Paper Corduroy

Rock, paper, scissors 2.0. This super ‘hands-on’ competition is wild and hosted by some seriously funny dudes every Monday night at The Corduroy in Kitsilano.  Arrive solo and leave a champion or at the very least, with some newfound friendships. Everyone’s a winner here.

Our favourite rooftop city escape, this chic garden terrace on the 4th floor of the iconic Hotel Georgia is a great post-work hangout to grab a cocktail and a few snacks and get your mingle on.

Lobby Lounge at Fairmont Pac Rim

One of the most lively spaces in the city, Lobby Lounge is where you go to see and be seen and strike up conversations with complete strangers that could end up becoming more than just strangers after a few cocktails. Incredible live music, cozy sofas and a sushi bar. What more could you ask for?

4  The Cambie

Super friendly staff and equally friendly patrons is what makes The Cambie in Gastown a popular hangout for visitors and locals alike.  The place to come for a cheap beer and drinks, above average pub food, great music and a good mix of people.  A little rough around the edges but that’s a part of the allure of this venue.

Piece of advice: Check your attitude at the door. #AintNobodyGotTimeForThat

JJ Bean Yaletown

We refer to the JJ Bean on Davie and Homer Street as the ‘friendliest corner in the city.’ This cafe is a hub for coffee lovers and self-employed Vancouverites just waiting to strike up a conversation! ‘Hello’s’ are abundant here.

1  Drum Circle at Third Beach

Quite possibly the most unique experience in the city, the weekly drum circle held at Third Beach is definitely an event to check out. Bringing together cultures and celebrating inclusivity to the beat of the bongos every Tuesday evening. Everyone is invited to participate, whether it’s drumming, dancing or just hanging out.
