6 Sturgeon Fishing on the Fraser River
There are many local guides who can take you out on the mighty Fraser for some sturgeon fishing. These behemoths are the largest freshwater fish in North America and although they are catch and release only, the Instagram pictures are well worth it. Many guides will also help you catch salmon too!
There is no shortage of hiking trails in Chilliwack. Whether you’re an experienced hiker looking for an overnight trek, or just looking for a quick jaunt with a rewarding view, there is literally something for every skill level. We recommend starting with Lindeman, progressing to Elk Mountain, and eventually conquering Mt Cheam.
4 Water Activities
Chilliwack boasts some great lakes, including Cultus Lake, only an hour east of Vancouver. Cultus is great for families and you can rent boats, sea-dos, paddle boards and more. There is also an amusement park and great waterslides for the kids, and restaurants and pubs for the older crowd. More secluded lakes include Chilliwack Lake and Lindeman Lake, both make for great day trips and are incredibly picturesque. Also check out the Vedder River for fishing, kayaking and river rafting.
3 Enjoy Fresh Food
Chilliwack is known for its vast farmland and you can be sure to find some amazing local food when you visit. Driving through town in the summer you will find lots of stands selling fresh fruit, vegetables, and our famous Chilliwack corn! Pick up some to take home or stop in to a local eatery to have something prepared for you. Be sure to check out the Chilliwack BBQ & Corn Fest happening on June 29th & 30th for a taste of all things Chilliwack.
2 Visit a Brewery
We are home to award winning Old Yale Brewing, who have recently opened a new tasting room. Stop by to try a beer or two, and fill your growler. Their Moondance Mango Wheat is perfect for the beach! While you’re in town, check out up and comers Chaos and Solace Brewing, too.
If you’re reading this list wondering how you fit it all into one day, we have your solution: camping. Chilliwack has tons of campgrounds, from full service sites close to town, to more remote areas deep in the woods. If you make sure to come prepared, read local warnings, and obey fire bans you’re guaranteed to have the time of your life camping in Chilliwack.
